What is in the FRUIT BOX? Peaches, Santa Rosa Plums and Satsuma Plums
This Week on the
Today is as busy as they come. We are sending people here and there to pick the last of the Santa Rosa Rosa Plums , the first of the Satsuma Plums, to try to keep up with the Suncrest Peaches, to hoe and weed the fast growing summer weeds in the lavender and parsley and cucumbers and flowers, to cut the fruit to be dried, to keep water moving on the apricots, to prop the peaches…oh my, I want to stop this list!!!
This has to be short, as cathartic as it is. My mind is spinning with the jobs and schedules and orders of the day. About once a month we sit and with much to say, realize the time has to be used another way. The downside of a diversified small farm is that so many different jobs line up with their own set of sequences and priorities. Who needs entertainment? The world is full of the endeavors of our choice… we can pick any from the many that are at crisis right now. I have to admit, though, that my feelings are similar to Rex Harrison as he muses in ‘My Fair Lady’…..in my case: “I’ve grown accustomed to the pace”, and I think I would be lost for a little while without it. But it can feel like being astride a runaway horse… just have to hang on until they get tired and hope for small changes in direction if necessary. Sorry about the brevity, but that’s the way it is this week out on the Farm. Glenn Yarborough used to sing “We’ll have good times by and by, when the work’s all done this fall”. I count on it! See you then. Jeff
